Haha. Well the helmet hair doesn't help that much Maybe the manly factor will go up if I tell you I was faster than all of the 911 GT3's, all of the Corvette Z06s, all of the Lotus Elises, Exiges, and Exige S's, 450hp 240s and RX7s etc etc etc Actually I think we were just about the fastest car with doors. But yeah, it's still a Miata I guess :P

I'd post pics of mine but they're BORING. For my bike a plain white SHOEI, for autox a plain white open-face helmet, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

Quote from deggis :But what the hell does this mean: "as well as the detailed distance conversion of the Nürburgring, one of Europe’s most challenging race tracks", I know what distance means but I'm not native speaker, what does that mean in this case? Hints to track length?

I've no idea what this means either, and english is my first language! I can only assume it's an intelligent sounding way of saying that the track will be accurately modelled.

Quote from BurnOut69 :I didnt even know that was planned, but found strange as hell a well populated LRF server that didnt have the word 'drift' in it, so I had to try.

Yeah, that's quite rare isn't it! I am always excited when I see a few servers with LX's but then see they're all drifting...I like some drifting now and then but it would be great to also have some LX RACING

Unfortunately I couldn't make it this time as I was autocrossing a real man's car...a Miata. I know what you're thinking, but this one is turbocharged with 260rwhp and 240lb/ft of torque. It was wet for our second day of racing so that was "fun". I came away as the Canadian National Champion in CSP though so I can't complain A little off topic but I started on topic at least...

I agree with what the guys here have said...stick with it! It sounds like you had a bad day with the LFS online experience, which happens to us all. But I think most will agree that the good days far outnumber the bad ones, and there are quite a few really great days in there too!

I have had a go for an hour or two at a friends house (on gamepad) and thought it was fun. Looks great, sounds great, and is pretty fun to drive. It's a shame it doesn't support DFP or G25 however! If it did, I'd be sorely tempted to get an XBox 360 and a couple of other games I've been eyeing up lately.

Oh wow. How can nobody have noticed that! Reading it is one thing but talking about it in discussions of the name surely should have raised a few alarms!

Quote from Hankstar :Don't recall actually, it's been at least 8 years since I played GT2. The one in GT3 was nice and flat and felt about 10 miles long. I've not given GT4 much of a thrashing (somehow they made the physics suck more than ever - if I can't get a 400hp Charger sideways, something is seriously wrong).

Yeah, with an open diff it would just spin up the inside rear which is okay (although you should still be able to get it sideways with an open diff I'm sure), but then stick an LSD on it and it would spin up both rear tires without getting sideways! Hmm....

Fortunately if that updated version of GT4 for the PS3 (with new graphics and physics) is anything to go by, they've fixed that MINOR (haha) flaw and improved the driving experience a bit more for GT5. Should make it fun enough to enjoy lapping the 'Ring in a Ferrari at least...

Having moved from England to Canada 8 years ago I never even knew they stopped selling Wispa bars! I used to like 'em. I don't eat nearly as much chocolate now I'm in Canada....there were so many things I liked in England, not as many here.

Yeah, and we should totally have the Nurburgring and the Isle of Mann and lots of other real circuits, and a bunch more real cars, and tuning options, especially NOS!

Okay, okay, I know you know this has been mentioned before, and the video is pretty damn cool...

Thanks for the comments on my pics I have the kit lens for the D70, which is an 18-70. It's not amazing but perfectly adequate for the kind of photography I'm into. That's the one I have used for all but two of the shots I posted. The bluebells shot was taken with a 70-300 Tamron which is cheap and slow but does the trick! The shot of Mt Baker with all the fog was taken with an old 2mp Toshiba compact camera. I'd love to spend some decent $$$ on lenses as I've seen some simply amazing shots with decent lenses, but I just do this for fun and would rather spend money on car stuff

XCNuse...yeah, I'd go with an ND filter too. I have one I use for waterfalls if it's too bright, and also a couple of graduated ND filters for landscapes. "Reflections at Dusk" and "Ripples" (check the name of the jpg) both used a graduated ND filter to make the sky portion a bit darker so it wasn't overexposed. This really helped these pics.

Quote from BlueFlame :You want a Small Volkswagen to be honest, Toyotas just pootle around, causing more damage to the environment in the long run, with costs of how many parts you go through etc.

Huh? Is this a joke that went over my head or am I missing something in my view of the reliability of Toyotas? Last time I checked, my brother had spent over $1000 keeping his 10 year old VW Golf running in the last couple of years, and my neighbour still hadn't ever had a single issue with her 10 year old Toyota Corolla She has been wanting to sell that car for years now but she's been waiting for something to break to help her justify it, but it just hasn't happened!

Quote from garph :.....how do you manage the frustration, annoyance and even anger? Is it just time, age or is it even relative to a post count or general forum experience?

I've been around LFS since the first demo came out in August 2002, and reading LFS forums (on RSC and then here) since then, and my solution is to never visit the improvement section, and to be very selective about what I read in the general forum! I used to frequent a number of the subsections, now I just come on and spend 10 minutes here looking for interesting stuff.

Quote from Bean0 :No idea why they created a specific offence for phones.

It's partly the fact that one of your hands is busy (unless you're hands free of course) but mostly that you are focusing on a conversation that can be very distracting. I can't be bothered going into detail, but there are loads of studies done on this and I am glad it's banned in some places. I am working on getting in touch with the right people to see about a ban in our province. About the rebuttal that says it's the same as having a conversation with someone in your car, a large number of studies suggest that it is not, for various reasons.

Quote from Smax :The solution to your fence problem is to switch your lens to manual focus and focus on the track beyond the fence. Next you should put the camera into full manual control and set it for "quite a slow shot" I can't be more specific about that cos it depends on the moment.

Next you choose a "shoot point" - When looking through the viewfinder at your shoot point you should be in the posistion of needing to pan the camera roughly 45 degrees left or right from your "shoot point" to have it pointing directly away from you.

Track a car as it approaches you. When the car reaches your "shoot point" press your shutter button and continue to track the car as it passes you. The slower you have the camera set the longer you will need to track the car for. Try to keep the car centre frame and your pan smooth and level.

If you get everything right, you should have a picture of the car in focus and the background all motion blurred out. The fence between you and the car will have become invisisble because the camera's movement blurs it out of the picture. I appreciate that's a rather clumsy explanation of something which will take you some practice to get right.

Below is an example I took at Le Mans from behind a 2 1/5 metre diamond pattern fence. It's not perfect - I didn't quite match the pan to the car's movement and I suspect the lens wasn't quite focussed correctly for the distance between me and the car. However I still think it's better than a shot of a great big fence with a car in the background which is what I would have had if I hadn't done roughly what I described above.

Exif Data : - ISO 100, F29, 1/20th sec

So basically do a panning shot instead of static. I saw some panning shots in the gallery, so I think creative surgeon knows how. Still good advice though!

My fav shots were the one with the #10 Porsche in the foreground and the yellow and black Porsche out of focus in the background, and the woman holding onto the rail and peering over. I really like the people shots at this kind of event, especially when you can isolate the subject(s) like you did.

Quote from skstibi :So, my advice is... Keep a tight line around everything and don't really worry about how fast you go through it.

Yeah, this is definitely the big compromise in autox! Do I take a wider entry and carry more speed, but giving up distance, or do I take the shorter line, carrying less speed? Unless you really have a straight stretch where exit speed is going to be crucial, I usually take a tighter line for most elements. Then I guess the last couple of seconds is just getting really close to the cones and being uber-skilled

Yeah, that's crazy. When I was testing with Victor, I got into the high 1:12s, and we figured top times would be under 1:11, MAYBE under 1:10. I said I'd be pretty damn impressed if anyone got under 1:10 and I am!
